September / Valley of the Dolls / Sheryl's 50th BD

Our book for September was Valley of the Dolls. We did not spend much time discussing the book because we went to dinner to celebrate my 'big' birthday. Thanks to everyone who made this such a special event. I hope that we can all celebrate our special days in the future.
We all met at the Paladar in Beachwood. This is a great Latin / Carribean place. After some silly gifts like a wine sipper cup, a magic youth wand and a whip, we enjoyed a great dinner and desert and fun conversation. Pictures were taken, but we have not seen them yet.
Thank you so much for the great evening. It is truly appreciated.

Our next book is the Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. The meeting is at my house (Sheryl) on 10-17.

Can't wait to read the book.

If any of you have comments about Valley of the Dolls, don't hesitate to post. I did not like the book - to sad for me.

Lipstick Jungle

8-22-07 We had another fun evening with a different kind of book - Lipstick Jungle. It was about Women in power and role reversal and their triumphs and struggles.

But first, let us talk food and drink. We were hosted by Kamna. She created a fabulous Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. We had champagne to wash it down. We also had great finger foods. Kamna, Maryanne, Alex, Sheryl, Mary Kaye and Terri enjoyed the evening discussion.
I think that our next book is Valley of the Dolls, but I am not sure as we kept changing our minds as to what to read next. The strategy over this is mind boggling. Maryanne noted that we created a list in our last meeting and why were we creating a new list. She is new so she doesn't know that we create and change the list every month. We moved our discussion of Queen Bees to some other time. Everyone is to get or borrow the book and we will assign each person a subject or a chapter so we all don't have to read the entire book. This way each person can have control over the subject matter that they read. This should be a good way to read this book.

Now, back to Lipstick Jungle. Some people liked this book, some did not. Kamna did not like the way it went forward and backwards in time. You never knew where you were. Also, there were a lot of lose ends. What happened to what was his name? Also, there were a lot of characters to track. The favorite character was Victory because she could re-define herself and make changes and risks. Maryanne identified the most with Wendy.

I need to do these updates right after our discussion, because I have already forgotten the characters names.

Don't hesitate to update or make comments.

Angry housewives eating Bon Bons

On July 18, the book group was hosted by Teri Zeaman for another fabulous evening of discussion. The book was Angry housewives eating bon bons. We decided to take on this name and create a blog history of our meetings, discussions, food and recipes.
In attendance - Alex, Renee, Teri, Kamna, Marianne, Mk and Sheryl
Terri made Motos (sp) with fresh mint from Renee's yard. We had pistachio whip cream on pound cake, chocolate and a vegetable pizza type dish. Everything was great as always.
We thought that Alex was somewhat like Audrey in the book, but could not find anyone else who resembled other characters. We identified with the way the women enjoyed each other and respected their differences. We each had stories about our crazy families that could make a book.
